Organization

Makeup Storage

I have gotten a few requests recently to show how I stay organized in the bathroom. Our house has limited space, so I try to make the most of it being a makeup and product lover.

Under the sink, I have two baskets to keep everything organized. One basket is filled with everything hair: dryer, flat iron, curling irons and brushes.

I also keep a giant cosmetic pouch on this side of the cabinet for all hair ties, backup hair products and claw clips. This keeps everything organized so when you are running around your house crying that your hair is driving you crazy, you know where to get an elastic that wasn’t stolen by the elastic fairy.

The second basket is filled with all things beauty, travel or medicine. I keep all travel things in one large gallon zip lock bag so when I am ready to go on a trip, I know where to look before buying my 5th mini toothpaste tube from Target.  I keep this plastic bag in the back of the bin and all my backup beauty supplies in the front. I also keep the travel case to the right of my bins since it is slim and doesn’t take up much space.

MAKEUP STORAGE

For makeup, I divide my products into sticks, tools, powders and face in a large clear tub. Clear plastic is great because it doesn’t take up space visually, is easy to clean and matches everything.  I love putting my kit in a tub because it can stay out on the sink while you get ready in the morning during the week, can be put under the sink out of the way if you have company or can be moved to another room in the house if you want to use a vanity mirror for a special occasion.

The sticks are: lipgloss, eyeliner, mascara- anything that comes in a thin cylinder. I bought 3 plastic (make sure you only use plastic in the bathroom) glasses from Target to stand everything upright.

The tools are: brushes, tweezers, scissors and the face products are bronzing and highlighting sticks, concealer and primers.

I keep loose eyeshadows I use the most in a small travel case so it does not get cluttered:

And I keep blushes, eyebrow powders and small bronzers in another small bowl I bought from Target. I got all of the bowls and glasses from the kitchen supply section of Target- cheap, cute and plastic.

I then store two most used pallets against the walls of the container and any other powders that do not fit in the bowl stacked in between the cups. Lastly, I put my highlighter and foundation currently in use in the front.

To best suit my needs, I organize the box by tall products in the back and short flat products in the front so I’m not to get frustrated in the morning.

My medicine cabinet in the mirror is saved for only products in use: perfume, hair spray, leave-in conditioner, moisturizer, self tanner- if there is something in your cabinet that you have not used within the month, toss it.

And lastly, I keep any “fun colors” and pigments or products I don’t use that often, but like to have around in a jewelry wall hanger on the back of the door.

There you have it: Makeup and beauty storage 101.
